Without having the image you're trying to trace for testing, I can't be sure. (I don't mean to be rude, but just trying to cover all the bases.) As you probably already know, you'll see the dashed line rectangle (known as "bounding box") with arrow handles when it's selected. Or I had accidentally selected a trace result from a different image on the page. Something that used to trip me up when I was first learning to use Trace Bitmap, was during all the importing, and trial and error, and Undoing, sometimes I didn't realize the image I wanted to trace had become deselected. Often we find, especially with b/w or grayscale images, the trace result is so close to the original that you don't realize the result has been there all along, right on top of the original image.Īlthough I guess the tutorials would have shown you that. But I guess we never stop learning, and next time I'll understand.Īnyway, no worries. But I never would have thought about Trace Bitmap to create it, because it can trace color images too. Yeah, that's what I thought a silhouette is. To me, a silhouette is a b&w outline of a given image. So my Inkscape version does not recognize the image at all. Generally, when I see no LIVE PREVIEW is when I get no results at all. Most of the time, I do not even get a LIVE PREVIEW even if I check the box. I have tried variations of checking or unchecking all the boxes in the SINGLE SCAN and MULTIPLE SCAN popup box. So when I follow the above instructions to make a silhouette from an existing image, my results differ in one of two ways.ĮITHER I just get an exact copy of the image (full colors and all detail) If I try drag and drop, all I see is the loss of this screen and a full page render of the pic I tried to drop (meaing I have had to type this whole thing 3 times now). My only options at the bottom of this text box is SUBMIT. My apologies, but I see no functionality on this screen that allows me to post any pix. I have seen about 12 variations of these tutorials. Below is a link to a couple videos I have watched to learn how to do a silhouette. Here's a very old list of places where you can host images or files, but it's very old, and I just looked at, and it's definitely dead viewtopic.Sorry, let me fill in some details here. If the file won't attach, you can upload it anywhere (such as dropbox, or.hmm, it seems is dead. Look below the Submit button for the "Attachments" tab. If you use the full editor, and not Quick Reply, you can try to attach your SVG file. But it's hard for us to guess at what might be going wrong. I have a feeling you may be confused about what type of objects are needed for each particular technique, whether PAP or Scatter. Whatever you decide to do, we need to see your SVG file, with your attempts or with your problems showing. But you can still post again there, and bring us back to the topic.) Or if your questions are different, then you can start a new topic. (I know we went a little bit off your original topic at the end. Guillaume, if your questions are similar to that topic, you can post again there. I think Guillaume already has a topic about PAP. Anyway, Scatter has some idiosyncrasies too it may keep reminding that it needs two selected paths, whereas I have repeatedly complied, without satisfying its requirement. But, I wonder why it is that nobody else has encountered these difficulties I don't think that developers would pay attention to an isolated case. Maybe I make some subtle move that complicates things. I think some of Inkscape's functions are unstable and it needs some rehab. How was I able to repeatedly alternate patterns and paths and how am I not able to do the same feat now eludes me. bowloffruit.PNG has double lines and bowloffruit2.PNG has double lines I got rectangles in between the two lines too. The other two pictures were an attempt at success with Pattern along Path. Roadrunner.PNG shows a nice spiral of the critter it was realized with Generate from Path > Scatter. For your information I have added some attachments. Yes, Trace Bitmap itself gave me few problems it was what comes next, the Path Effect and Pattern along Path. My query title should have been “Trace Bitmap and Beyond”.
